How to play
- The full 52-card pack, 13 cards each. Highest first: ace, king, queen, jack, then ten down to two. Play goes anticlockwise.
- Bidding starts on the dealer's right. Each bid is 7 to 13 tricks, higher than the one before, or pass. A player who passes is out of the bidding for that hand.
- Bidding ends when three players have passed after the last bid, and a bid of 13 ends it at once. If all four pass, the cards are dealt again.
- The highest bidder chooses trump (tarneeb) and leads.
- Follow the suit led while you can; otherwise play anything, with no duty to trump. The highest trump wins the trick, otherwise the highest card of the suit led.
- All 13 tricks are played every hand.
Scoring and winning
- If the bid is made, the bidding team scores the tricks it took and the others score nothing.
- All 13 tricks (kaboot) score 16; a bid of 13 made scores 26.
- If the bid fails, the bidding team loses its bid (16 for a bid of 13) and the others score their tricks, or 16 if they took all 13. Scores can go below zero.
- The first team to reach 41 at the end of a hand wins. You can choose 31 or 61 instead in the game's options; quick match plays to 41.
