How to play
- All 64 squares are used. Each player has 16 men on their second and third rows; each side's back row starts empty. The light side moves first.
- A man moves one square forward or sideways, never backward and never diagonally.
- A man captures by jumping an adjacent enemy piece forward or sideways onto the empty square beyond, and keeps capturing in the same move while it can.
- Capturing is compulsory and you must take the most pieces you can; a king and a man count the same. If several ways take the same number, you choose.
- A man reaching the far row becomes a king and stops there, even in the middle of a capture.
- A king moves any number of empty squares in a straight line forward, back or sideways, captures a piece at any distance landing on any empty square beyond it, and may not turn back between two jumps.
Winning and draws
- You win when your opponent has no pieces left or no legal move.
- Two or more kings against a lone king win at once.
- Draws: one piece each, fifty moves by each side with no capture, or the same position three times.
